Back in 1982 at the the now defunct Sahara Tahoe Hotel Casino in South Lake Tahoe, I got to see Jefferson Starship with a relatively new singer called Mickey Thomas.
The only thing I really knew about him was that he was the voice behind Elvin Bishop's song "Fooled Around and Fell In Love".
But after I saw him sing new songs like "Jane" "Familiar Stranger" and "We Built This City" I knew that this guy was goinig to singing for a long time.
And I was right.
Last Sunday night at the Kern County Fair there was Mickey up on stage again with a new Starship still singing those Rock n Roll tunes as well as other Jefferson Airplane/Starship songs.
And now MIckey and The Starship are back with a new album.
According to Loud & Proud Records, the new album called "Loveless Fascination" was recently released last Tuesday with a new video from their new song "It's Not The Same As Love".
The new album was produced by musician/producer Jeff Pilson known for his work from Dokken, Foreigner and Dio.
Loud & Proud Records says that it's their first new studio album in 20 years and finds the band reinvigorated with their classic arena rock sound behind the strength of Mickey's awesome voice blended with modern elements and a harder edge.
Mickey and Starship are currently on a nation wide tour supporting the album and after hitting the East Coast, they will return to the West Coast with a date at The Roxy in Hollywood on November 6th.
