Who says Jocks and Rock Stars can't get along?
Well according to the New York Daily News they got along great recently at New York's Yankee Stadium.
Last Sunday, Bay Area Metal Heads and San Francisco Giants Fans, Metallica gave New York Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera a fitting farewell at Rivera's retirement party.
Since 1999, the future Baseball Hall of Famer closing pitcher has taken the mound in the late innings at Yankee Stadium to his signature entrance music of Metallica's "Enter Sandman".
So shortly after the Yankees VIP's in attendance gave their solemn farewells to Rivera, Metallica outfitted in custom made Metallica baseball jerseys, emerged in centerfield on a mini stage and cranked up the volume to 11 as they rocked Yankee Stadium's rafters to a wide smiling Rivera.
It was a lavish one song tribute as Rivera walked from to his customary spot in the bullpen to the mound to the thunderous Metallica blast of Rock n Roll.
After the mini concert, Metallica revealed a special gift for Rivera, a giant speaker with Rivera's #42 on it decorated in Yankees pinstripes, with Metallica's signatures on it.
Everybody in attendance was stoked and even though the Giants lost to the Yankees the night before, so were Metallica.
