Back in the in the early '80's a sordid Rock N Roll book about Led Zeppelin called Hammer of the Gods was published that told depraved stories from the road of the mighty Led Zep.
Stories of rampant hard drug use, extreme alcohol consumption and Black Magic occultism were some of the tales told.
One particularly freaky story involved a Led Zep Groupie being molested with a small shark!
But apparently times have changed the public perception of these decadent Rock Stars because now they have received one of the most mainstream honors that can be given.
Believe it or not, the surviving members of Led Zeppelin are among this year's group of Kennedy Center Honorees.
The honors are the nation's highest award for those who influenced American culture through the arts.
The ceremony taped last month for TV, will be shown tonight with President Obama on hand, thanking Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Robert Plant for behaving themselves at the White House, given their past history of "hotel rooms trashed and mayhem all around."
Also on hand to pay tribute to Zeppelin are the Foo Fighters, Kid Rock, Lenny Kravitz and Jack Black along with Heart's Ann and Nancy Wilson, with a choir and Jason Bonham on drums, to perform "Stairway to Heaven."
Chicago blues legend Buddy Guy is also honored along with David Letterman, Dustin Hoffman and ballerina Natalia Makarova.
