This weekend, one of my Southwest Baseball players brought me this cool bobblehead. He got it at Dodger Stadium. He brought it to me because he knew I loved the Cubs. But this means so much more to me. Back in 1976, Rick Monday, now one of the Dodgers broadcasters, was centerfielder for the Cubs. But on April 25th, at Dodger Stadium, he became one of my heroes. Two protestors had jumped onto the field and were about to set an American flag on fire. Before they could get it lit, Rick ran in, and snatched it from them, saving the flag. I saw it as it happened that day on WGN-TV. I was so impressed by that, I changed my uniform number to #7 in his honor. One of sports greatest moments. What a great thing for the Dodgers to commemorate. Thank you George and Jose for the bobblehead, it means more to me than you'll know. And Mr. Monday...thank you. I hope to be able to say it in person some day.
