Its often thought of as hallowed ground...the exclusive country club only select few get to see. Let me dispel some myths surrounding "Backstage".
1. The artists are rarely hanging around "backstage". They are in their private dressing room or tour bus. If you are backstage, you'll only see them as they walk up to take the stage. There is almost no interaction with anyone.
2. So many of the classic rockers...by-pass the traditional "Meet and Greet". They've been there done that. Their gatekeepers...also known as "tour managers" find them to be a pain in the butt and its not going to sell another ticket or another album (I'd love to see that changed. When you're trying to milk another pile of $$$ from the concert going public...and your prime was in 1983...you should do everything you can to make lifelong fans at every opportunity. Some artists get this (Sammy Hagar, George Thorogood, Chicago).
3. Backstage is a mess. There's thousands of dollars of equipment cases, wires, consoles and guitar tech stuff. Really cool if you are a musician...but to most people, you'd be surprised to learn what it takes to put on a full scale show. (See photo - I was backstage for Cheap Trick and Pat Benatar...that's all I saw).
4. There are NO green M & Ms.
