As we head towards Father's Day, I look back at my Dad. He passed away in 1986 at age 48 from cancer (wonder why I'm so passionate about Relay for Life?). One of the gifts he gave me...was a love of baseball. Playing it, watching it, talking about it. I played organized ball from age 8 and to high school and into college. By age 9, I'd been to at least 10 Cubs baseball games at Wrigley Field. I'm a die-hard Cubs fan. But because I spent part of my early years here in California, and met Jim Fregosi of the Angels, I was also an Angels fan. Now I pass this love of the game on to my son Caden Ryne. Yes, he's even named after Cubs Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg. He's a little stud baseball player at age 6...way better than I was. He's also a Cubs and Angels fan. Yesterday...along with my wife, we enjoyed a great game between our two favorite teams in Anaheim (Cubs won in 10 innings). What a blast. Caden would wave his Cubbie bear he's had since he was a baby, when the Cubs were batting...then his Rally Monkey when the Angels were up. Great time. Thanks Dad. Wish you could have been there.
