Taking It To the Limit And Beyond

Call it a comeback? Surely it’s not. Though it’s been 28 years since their last album, the Eagles never really went anywhere. Standing their ground, the rockers are rated one of the top touring bands around the world. They have been picking up steam on their tours since reuniting in 1994.
Proving they withstand the test of time, their much-anticipated album, Long Road Out of Eden, released on October 30, has been certified seven times platinum.
In 1998, the group was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for their legendary accomplishments. Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 album sold an impressive 26 million copies. It was the first album to be certified platinum (by the Recording Industry Association of America in 1976).
The bands have made a home for themselves on Billboard’s country chart, nudging Garth Brooks, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift a few spots down. “I’m sort of proud of that,” Don Henley says.

Lyin’ Eyes
You can't hide your lyin' eyes
And your smile is a thin disguise
I thought by now you’d realize
There ain't no way to hide your lyin’ eyes
The song penned by Don Henley and Glenn Frey, appeared on their One of These Nights album and reached # 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and # 9 on the US Country chart. Legend has it that the song was inspired by a waitress who served the band while on tour. One bandmember said she had lyin' eyes and the rest is history. |
Hotel California
On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas rising up through the air
“Hotel California” was released as a single in 1977 and the album of the same name won the Grammy for Record of the Year in 1978. "People always tend to think it's about California," Henley says, "but I think it was about the dark underbelly of American culture at large." |
Tequila Sunrise
Every night when the sun goes down
Just another lonely boy in town
And she's out runnin' round
“Tequila Sunrise” is not only a cocktail but also the first single from the Eagles second album Desperado in 1973. It was written by Don Henley and Glenn Frey. |
Take It Easy
Well, I’m running down the road
Tryin’ to loosen my load
I’ve got seven women on
My mind
The song was the band’s first single released in 1972. It also has the honor of being the opening track on the band’s debut album.

Desperado
Don't you draw the queen of diamonds, boy
She'll beat you if she's able
You know the queen of hearts is always your best bet
“Desperado” which means “desperate” in Spanish, was voted #494 in Rolling Stones 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Artists such as Johnny Cash, Linda Rondstat and the Carpenters have covered the song. |
Take It To The Limit
You can spend all your time making money
You can spend all your love making time
If it all fell to pieces tomorrow
Would you still be mine?
The third single from the album, One of These Nights, was released in 1975 and hit # 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also went to # 12 on the UK charts. |
